VallesFamily > In Nairobi National Park (a game reserve about 45 minutes from our house) they have an elephant orphanage. You can only visit them from 11-12 every day, but if you adopt one you can beat the crowd and come at 5:00 to see them be put to bed. We thought this was a great deal since it's only $50 a year.
VallesFamily > This is Mikena in her pen. We chose her because of the name is so close to Kenna. Interestingly enough, Jane, our maid, was telling me one day that she was going to call me Mikena because in her language it means someone who's happy all the time.
VallesFamily > Drinking milk. They have to eat every three hours.
VallesFamily > Holding her bottle
VallesFamily > They even allowed the kids to get in the pen with her since we are her foster parents. Just like a baby, she was sucking on everyone's fingers, what an experience.

VallesFamily > Matteo and Dom were freaking out because she was whipping them with her trunk, she's very very playful
VallesFamily > This is her caretaker.
VallesFamily > Here are some of the pens. They only stay in them at night, during the day they are in a herd together. Each elephant has a caretaker and they are with them 24/7. When they are 3 they are transported to a different part to be integrated into an existing herd.
